FORMAT AND ACTIVITIES

Format

Expected Learning Outcomes

  • After active participation in the workshop, attendees will obtain a comprehensive knowledge on the most updated clinical practices, specially focusing on initial therapy in treatment-naïve subjects, and switching schemes in individuals with virological suppression.
  • This educational session will enable clinicians and researchers to apply the knowledge acquired in their daily clinical practice, such as design treatment strategies for different patient populations, recognize potential drug interactions and manage optimal therapies.
  • The workshop designed to be very interactive, allowing time for discussion, will provide an excellent platform for networking, explore research collaborations and discuss practical cases with peers and experts.

Event Activities – Program

  • Lectures from experts in antiretroviral therapy including much time for Q&A sessions.
  • Interactive pros and cons debate session: Two experts will take opposite standpoints on the debate issue; expose the facts on both points of view encouraging participants’ critical thinking and engagement on the discussion.
  • Submission of Cases: Attendants are encouraged to submit clinical cases relevant to the workshop topics (initial, switching and salvage antiretroviral therapy). Prior to the workshop the cases submitted will be reviewed and selected to be discussed during the workshop session.
SUBMIT CASE

Cases must be sent in Power Point –PPT- format (maximum of 10 slides).

They must be related with ART (initial, switch or salvage) issues, or treatment-related toxicities.

They must contain all the info needed for the understanding and discussion of the case and comply with confidentiality and ethical issues. All cases with treatment failure must include the resistance tests, treatment history relevant info. The cases will be reviewed and selected by the Scientific Committee, those selected will receive the corresponding certificate and an award.

Cases will be discussed by experts and assistants, but the presenter can present the case.

The deadline for case submission is 6th April 2017.

 

  • Expert open forum interactive sessions: A lunch session with the experts is scheduled. Attendees will be able to discuss in a more informal environment (working groups) their cases previously submitted as well as cases prepared by the experts leading each break-out group.

European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education

The ‘Update on Clinical Topics in Antiretroviral Therapy ‘ workshop has been submitted for accreditation by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) to provide CME activity for medical specialists, www.uems.net.
